Shockingly Simple Favicon (WP Plugin)

The “Shockingly simple favicon” changes the favicon of your blog without having to edit the theme files, and put a WordPress icon in the admin interface, so you can easily spot the admin tab in your browser. This changes are fixed so you dont have to mess with theme code everytime you change theme.

  1. Upload through WordPress interface or install it directly from the plugin area
  2. Activate it through the ‘Plugins’ menu
  3. Visit the settings page in the admin area at Settings > S. Simple Favicon and configure it

In version 1.7.3 the favicon will be loaded on the configured location, by default /favicon.ico, if lefted blank the default favicon that is shipped with the plugin will be used.

I’m no professional programmer, this plugin is mantained in the little spare time that I have between work and university and neither is english my native language so ANY suggestion for the plugin coding or text will be appreciated.

  1. Easy way to add a favicon. Thanks!

  2. I’m using your plug-in and had high hopes. For some reason, it is seeing the favicon.ico in my root folder, as picked up automatically by the plug in. The admin icon option even works, but for some reason, the blog one does not. It’s like the update button does not work.

    Here is a screenshot:

Do I have to change directory permissions? Anything like that? Your assistance/guidance would be much appreciated!

  4. The file_exists checking is broken. When I enter a correct URL to my icon, then the plugins dismisses it and replaces it with the default one. It does, because it can’t locate the file in the local file system. Of course it can’t! My blog is not in the root of my site, for one thing. You can not just do some tricks with URL components to find the actual file location. Web servers operate with virtual folders.

I remove the file_exists lines (if block), and it works. The rest is good. Please just accept the given URL in the nest version, or better, just test if the URL gets a status 200.

    great plugin – thanks!
I use WP 2.8 installed directly in the root, with a static start page, some more static pages and a blog. I initially tried to implement a favicon in the header.php of my theme, but it came up only on the start page. With your plugin, the favicon appears on all pages but, alas, not on the blog.
I can’t show you the site, it’s not live yet. Any ideas how to make the favicon appear on the blog too?

    LOL I hear you!

I am a bit new … but the problem I ran into with IE7 and IE8 had to do with a file that isn’t updated with the refresh of the browser … If it is working in FF, then its not the plugin probably as much as IE8 – it like to “overcache” everything to be helpful .. but annoying when you want to change something! LOL there is a way to clear this “cache” where the favicon info sits, but it does update itself every few times. So new vistors will see the new one, old vistors will see the new one in a few days … since even if you clear your cache on your browser ..the vistors still have theirs! LOL mine took like 2 days to update. Since it was working fine in FF, I didn;t bother to hard with it. Sure enough 2 days later boom, my favicon appears .. ;)

That may or may not be what is happening with yours … but thought I would mention it. Have a great day!

  56. Olá, se aceita sugestões de um plugin que está em falta e fazendo as pessoas passarem nervoso com plugins mal-feitos, minha sugestão é um plugin para gerenciar quizzes e testes.

O melhorzinho do mercado é o Quizzin.

I installed this plugin several times and it didn´t work, i cleaned my cache and i have thinked format the pc to see, ehhehehe, this is joke.any ideas?

    Your sincerely

  102. @Theresa
@Theresa instead of using S.Simple favicon you should try instead. After making your icon you must log in to get a HTML-code. This code snippet must be addet to your header.php in the blogeditor. Relatively simple it is.. :)

  106. Can someone please break it down for me, how this plugin is meant to work? I can NOT get it to display my favicon. I’ve tried everything, and am at the end of my rope. I was really hoping this would be easy, but I’m out of ideas. I’ve uninstalled/reinstalled the plugin, cleaned my cache, used a different image, used the same image under a different name… ARGH!

  107. I cannot get this to work, instructions are very vague and have exhausted all searches on this plugin… I have attempted different images, different locations in my file manager, cleared cookies/cache… am using Firefox and read it should appear instantaneously. It is not working, any other suggestions?

  110. Here’s what I did to get mine to work, in firefox, but unable to in explorer
Im not sure what fixed it , but my last step finally displayed it.

Followed instructions per plugin, didnt work,
read tips here and replaced the favicon.ico file in wp-content. didnt work.
added the ico file to the image folder in the root,
then went back to the plugin and changed the url path from my to
and BAM it displayed in the box,
so I saved the changes and viewed my page and there was the favicon next to my url !! checked it in explorer and it did not work, but thats ok I’lll settle for this. Thanks for the plugin and your hard work !
